Can I study abroad without collateral for an education loan?
Short answer
Yes. Unsecured education loans of ₹20–40 lakh are widely available for admits to ranked universities, based on your co-applicant's income and your admission letter rather than property.
Public banks usually want collateral above ₹7.5 lakh, while NBFCs and international lenders offer unsecured loans against a strong admit. The trade-off is a higher interest rate, typically 11–14% versus 9–11%.
Lenders assess the university and the course, not just you. A ranked university with good employment outcomes unlocks larger unsecured amounts than an unranked one.
Apply for sanction before your visa appointment. Most visa routes accept a sanction letter as proof of funds, and arranging it late is the most common cause of a deferred intake.
