How much does it cost to study abroad from India?
Short answer
Budget roughly ₹25–45 lakh in total for a one-year masters in the UK, Ireland or Australia, ₹35–60 lakh for a two-year US masters, and ₹12–20 lakh for Germany, where public universities charge little or no tuition.
Your total cost is tuition plus living costs plus one-off costs. The one-off items — tests, applications, visa fee, health surcharge, flights, initial deposit — usually add ₹2–4 lakh and are the ones students forget to plan for.
Living costs vary more than tuition. London, Sydney and New York can cost twice what a smaller university city does for the same course, which is often the single biggest lever on your budget.
Part-time work during study covers day-to-day expenses in most countries but should never be counted on to pay tuition. Visa officers expect you to show funds without it.
