Can I work while studying abroad?
Short answer
Yes, in most destinations — usually 20 hours a week during term and full time in vacations. The UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and Ireland all allow it, with post-study work visas of 1–3 years afterwards.
Part-time work realistically covers rent, food and travel, not tuition. Treat it as living support, and never plan your budget around it.
Breaching the hour limit can end your visa, so keep payslips and track your hours, especially if you hold two jobs.
Post-study work rights are the bigger financial factor: the UK Graduate Route (2 years), Canada's PGWP (up to 3 years), Australia's Temporary Graduate visa and Germany's 18-month job-seeker permit all let you recover costs after graduating.
